History On Autism

There hold kept on many conditions understood history the present hold kept on mistaken for something else, and before the human mind was understood, many with mental disabilities got placed in jail. They were believed a threat and got then massively medicated. Today, we have a greater state of affairs of how some people go through, and in the face of different out of any person else, we know there is an underlying trigger for it. History On Autism

We know do our best to aide people like the rather of persecuting them. When appearing back in the history of autism, it is easy the present while it was given a and cr in the early half of the 1900s, it was largely misunderstood by people for a extensively time. Some believe that autism was first noticed as a condition around 1911, but it wasn’t really anything other than a theory at that time. A Swiss psychiatrist by the name of Eugen Bleuler is thought to be the first to use the term. History On Autism

The word ‘autism’ meant ‘an escape from reality’ and was based on behaviors he observed in adults and it was attributed to schizophrenia. Though that was false and misleading, it was a step closer to putting a name to a condition that was largely misunderstood. New information was found from one of the earliest recorded studies of children with autism. From 1938 to the year 1943, a doctor by the name of Leo Kanner studied the behaviors of eleven autistic children. The children he chose to study were ones that seem to withdraw from interaction with others as early as age one. The type of autism that he recorded and named was what would be considered ‘classic autism’ and is often referred to as Kanner’s Syndrome. History On Autism

These children were thought to have different characteristics than those classified as mentally retarded. However, at this time it was still largely misunderstood. Some believed parents were to blame, and these children were often removed from the home and placed with others to see if they would ‘recover.’ It wasn’t until the 1960s when the disorder was finally being studied and understood for what it really is and the impacts it has on a person. History On Autism

The finger pointing at parents of autistic children reduced as understanding grew, but there was and still is in some cases a lot of misinformation about autism, and many parents feel the need to defend themselves, as if they’ve ‘done something’ to their child. These are defined a large number of by a series and a range of psychological conditions that transpire in the abnormalities of social interaction and communication – one of the ear marks of autism itself. Autism Spectrum Characteristics

The names that can be included within this spectrum is Asperger Syndrome, childhood disintegrative disorder and Rett syndrome. Since they have been placed within a group, this article will not so much discuss about the different types of autism and their characteristics, but more as an explanation to the various and differing areas of autism spectrum and some of the common and unique symptoms that they may or may not share with each other.

There is an understanding that the terminologies behind the condition known as autism can be sometimes wildly confusing, with the many names that overlap similar disorders and how seem to exist in very different arenas of childhood and even adult mental disorders. Within all these aspects of autism spectrum, the one defining characteristic of all are the tangible impairments of interaction and communication on a social level. Autism Spectrum Characteristics

Also, there is a general agreement that the individuals under this spectrum also suffer from repetitive behaviours as well as restricted interests. Within this percentage, is a smaller percentage of people who seem to display extraordinary abilities, like long term memory, or ability to unravel difficult mathematical equations or even have skills like artistic flair or even great musical abilities.

While this represents just a small percentage of those affected by autism spectrum, there is a floating belief that a higher percentage has latent abilities hidden within them, as a sort of psychological balancing of the body, to increase the performance in one area to make up for the slow processing of stimuli within the brain. Children who suffer from this condition also seem to share a loneliness that most often is mistaken for a preference. Autism Spectrum Characteristics

Facts About Autism

Autism is a really serious condition that you ought to know all there is to know about. Sadly many people don’t bother to read up all they can about this condition. This article looks at few of the earth-shattering facts about autism and the spectrum disorders that you should know.

- One in every 3000 American children were estimated to suffer from autism in the mid-nineties, but by the middle of the current decade, the number had risen to about one in every 500 believed to suffer from classic autism. For autism spectrum disorders, the number was then closer to six hundred thousand children. The projections are that by the year 2010, going at this rate, one out of every ten American kids will suffer from some variation of the disease! Facts About Autism

- There are many treatment procedures and a few medications that are known to help various physical symptoms of autism, but there is no cure. Research has been ongoing for years but the best that the medical community has to offer are possible risk factors from genetics, chemicals, and the environment. Besides that, there are only a number of training therapies that have not been proven to heal anyone just yet, and cannot be demonstrated as actually helping the autism patient improve in any way.

- At least one child has died from experimental procedures that are supposed to help find a cure for autism. Many clinicians are getting frustrated by the hollow and echoing lack of results after more than fifty years of testing and researching to find the cause and cure for autism, and they are beginning to grasp at straws. Heavy metal chelation, a chemical process that was supposed to bind with and extract heavy metal deposits of cadmium and mercury from the body of the patient, backfired once, and a child was lost without any positive results. Teaching Kids With Autism

One of the equals of autism which researches hold referred to as is the genetic factor. It has been diagnosed that the odds of parents to transfer the genes of autism to their children is acutely high. This occurence has been detected and verified by many studies. On the average, there is a chance of 1 in every 20 child inheriting autistic genes from the parents. This is related similar to other diseases. Apart from hereditary, below are other causes of autism:

• Environmental causes of autism – The autism research institute in 1967 gave a proposition from Dr. Bernard Rimland that showed the relationship between the presence of heavy metals like mercury and autism. These metals are said to be toxic to the children who are genetically predisposed to autism. Teaching Kids With Autism

In the paper, the recommendation of diets, which are free from gluten and casein, is said to help treat autism in the victims. Moreover, some reports have equally encouraged the application of “Chelation therapy” as an effective autism treatment option. Chelation therapy simple means the removal of mercury from the body.

• Biological causes of autism – Another theory, which has gained acceptance as the cause of autism, is known as the “Supermale Brain theory”. This theory is of the view that most children with autism are diagnosed with having a high level of testosterone. Autism researches made on this theory revealed that the children with large amount of testosterone could not really make eye contact before the age of two. Thus, this factor is a cause of autism. Autistic Motivational Speak Marty Murphy speak about Autism. Dec 2006, Normal Illinois. Born in 1963, Marty grew up in Normal, Illinois. By the time she was 5, it was clear that she was a child of special needs. However, more functional than one with stereotypical autism, she fell through the cracks of the school system. By the time she was nine, she was led to believe she was mentally retarded, marginally surviving mainstream schooling. She furthered her education in Bloomington, Illinois where she was determined to have ADHD, autism, dyslexia and dyscalculia. In 1988, she furthered her graduate studies at the University of Arizona. Through a series of unsuccessful college transfers, and part time jobs, she was informed by a doctor that she had a disability; “High Functioning Autism” also known as “Aspergers”. She indeed had ADHD, dyslexia and dyscalculia, but most surprising, she was not retarded. Marty went abroad, attending the Ballymaloe Culinary School in Shanagarry, County Cork, Ireland, to which her schooling gave her an opportunity on the open seas as a chef, but alas social circumstances were not a good match for her. Returning to Normal, Marty was in the darkest part of her life, as a selective/elective mute with a clear diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder. But being properly diagnosed made great differences in her life. Doctors found success in medications that finally helped her. Doctors encouraged her to get active in the local autism organization, and it

Cars Childhood autism Rating Scale

Are you troubled the current your young child may hold autism that much although you have you been heard informed by special education personnel overly he or she doesn’t? Would you like to know 3 of the lies imparted upon by the majority of special education personnel on this disorder? Would you moreover like to learn advocacy strategies to overcome these kinds of lies? This article will address 3 of the several common lies told to parents almost autism! Cars Childhood autism Rating Scale

Lie 1: Your child does not have autism, they are emotionally disturbed! This is the most common lie that I see as an educational advocate. Most children with autism do have emotional and behavioral difficulty, but this is caused by the disorder. To truly be emotionally disturbed, the child cannot have any other disability causing the behavioral difficulty; which of course is not true in this case.

The reason that this is important is because if a child has autism, they will probably need extensive related and special education services, to benefit from their education. If the school district can convince you that your child does not have autism but is emotionally disturbed, they can try and deny all of the educational, services that your child needs. You can advocate for your child by having them tested privately, with a psychologist specifically trained in this area. Bring these results to the school district and ask that your child be found eligible for special education under the category of autism; not emotionally disturbed (if the evaluation shows that this is true).

Lie 2: Your child does not have autism because they do not have the repetitive behavior that is a symptom of autism. I hear this a lot too, especially for children that have been diagnosed with Pervasive Developmental Disorder (PDD) or Aspergers Syndrome. Many of these children do not have the typical features associated with this disorder.

Over the years I have had many special education personnel tell me that a certain child did not have a certain disability; without testing them. The child needs to be given an autism rating scale by a qualified professional. The one that I recommend is the Childhood Autism Rating Scale (CARS). It is easy to fill out and to come up with a score. The higher the score is the greater chance that the child has the disorder. Cars Childhood autism Rating Scale

There is also an Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS) that can be given again by a qualified trained professional. Insist that your child receive an Autism Rating Scale (CARS), or the ADOS.
