How much longer, untill they find a cure to autism?

In my lifetime? 5 years? 10 years? 25 years? 50 Years? 100 years? 1000 years?……

If anyone knew that it would be cured already, duh!!

They have just completed one of the most complex genetic sequencing of Chromosome 1. This has the possibility to identify the causative arrangement of alliols so I do believe we are getting one stop closer to possible a future cure.

The question should be the following: What causes Autism?
No one knows for sure and there is a lot of stonewalling going on. Autism has been linked to the perservatives in vaccines that children get in hospitals. Of course not much will come of that because the big drug corporations certainly will deny any link exists. But a proven fact is that 1 out of every 168 children born in the US will get some form of Autism. From a historical perspective the drug companies have caused a lot of damage over time. There was a period back in the fifties when childen were born deformed without arms and legs. Some went sterile. It was linked to a drug that was used during pregnancy for pregant mothers to gain weight. My mother worked for a pharmacist in Germany when she was young. She would not allow us to take any form of medication unless it was an outright emergency. The sad point in all of this is that someone knows what is going on with Autism, but big business comes first, and Humans come second. For example, there is a women in New Jersey who is locking her horns with the CDC over the Mad Cow Disease. She has proven beyond a reaonable doubt that clusters of Mad Cow (CJD and its varients) are killing people in New Jersey, as well as the rest of the country. The CDC denies this, and so does the NJ Department of Health. Why must a woman, a mother, not a scientist, fight for our food safety? Where is the goverment? I guess they are supporting the cattle industry.
    Good Night, and Good Luck.

I dont think there will ever be a cure as such. Sorry!!. But understanding and treatment is getting better every day.

So a dignosis of autism is not the life sentence of dependancy it used to be a few years ago

    good luck

I agree with fenx1200, we should be looking for the causes and not the cure. As autism is a developmental disorder, i.e. affecting development, and since development is mainly a one-way street, it seems unlikely that a ‘cure’ will ever be found, and that it is far more likely that we will find a prevention. Additionally, autism is a heterogenous disorder, i.e. has many different causes and behavioural manifestations, so unless there is a genetic therapy miracle ‘cure’ that could target ALL dysfunctions from a very very early age (probably from before the age of a year, far before symptoms are usually present), it again seems very unlikely. There have been great strides lately however in the causes of autism, from genetic defects to neural circuitry failure to hormones, and armed with the knowledge, I think that a prevention may not be too far off. I think in terms of a cure, early early intervention seems the best possible scenario…

Hope that helps, if you’d like any references for any of those facts, email me!
