I’ve never had any problems with my kids and the vaccinations they’ve received. But I hear so much about autism and how dramatically it has increased in the last ten years. What can you tell me about mercury as a vaccine additive? Is it still used? Why do some kids "contract" autism? Is it because of the vaccines? If so, what determines who will become autistic and who will not? If not, what other reasons might cause it? What are some good resources for me to check out on the subject?
First, I’d like to challenge the notion of a "dramatic increase" of autism.
Different Definition, different diagnosis rate: 20 years ago, when you said "autism" you were refering to the full-blown or "strict" autism. (Rocking, head banging, little or no speach) The rate of "strict autism" hasn’t changed nearly as much as the sensational stats you hear about. Now we know about a mild form of autism called Asperger’s. Not only do we have a lot of kids diagnosed as Asperger’s (classified under autism) but many adults are being diagnosed. Many people suspect Bill Gates is autistic. Some suspect Thomas Jefferson & Albert Einstein were both Asperger’s.
As for vaccinations, they USED TO contain a mercury type preservative called thimerosal. They stopped putting thimerosal in children’s vaccines around the year 2000. The last lots of vaccines which contain thimerosal as a preservative expired by early 2003.
CAUSES:
There is a significant genetic factor in autism. This is evident in twin studies. If one identical twin is autistic, the second one has an 80% chance of being on the autistic spectrum. If the child isn’t autistic, she is likely to have some traits, just not enough to be classified autistic. Yet with faternal twins, if one twin is autistic, the 2nd twin is no more likely to be autistic than a sibling born 10 years later! (4%)
They believe it isn’t just one gene involved. It seems to be several genes that "collide" in one person to make then vunerable to autism.
It’s not 100% genetic. If it was, then if one identical twin is autistic, the second one would ALWAYS be autistic.

I don’t know a lot about autism, but I do know it is very, very rare for vaccines to contain methyl mercury anymore.

To be honest with you I’m pregnant as we speak and I have been researching that alot lately. Yes I do believe that vaccines do cause autism. I recently found out that the us has taken mercury out of vaccinations. But what I would do is test your child for the levels of metal in there body if they have a high level of metal then dont give them the vaccines. If i find anything else out I will write back.

The mercury preservatives have been taken out of the vaccines for children. There has not been any proof of a link between vaccines & autism.

First, yes, mercury IS still in some immunizations. Yes, the govnt. required that it be taken out, but they did NOT require that ones already produced be taken off the market. The flu shots STILL contain mercury. Here’s a quote:
"The flu vaccine is the only routine childhood vaccine that still sometimes includes thimerosal. Parents can request the mercury-free version of this vaccine. Some of the combined diphtheria and tetanus vaccines may contain trace residues of thimerosal" So, you have to request it.–http://www.nrdc.org/health/effects/mercury/everyday.asp
Second, don’t be deceived by what they are considering trace amounts. All that means is the level of mercury falls below the amount set as being safe, BUT, problem is, what they consider to be safe is only safe if you happen to weigh about 500 lbs. —www.thinktwice.com
Third, no body really knows what causes autism, but it seems like the most likely answer is that it is a condition that is genetic that either shows signs at birth (not that common) or reveals itself after a severe shock, either environmental, physical or mental. When a child has autism, their bodies do not process anything correctly, even their digestive systems typically don’t work properly. When you’re dumping mercury into their systems, that will cause it to present itself. Think of it this way. Ok, lets say for argument sake the amount is only ‘trace’ amounts. Mercury builds up in the system, it crosses the blood-brain barrier and essentially causes damage. Now, that would be one shot. Considering I think the amount of vaccines a child gets before school is around 26, that little trace amount becomes a bigger picture, doesn’t it? To a child who already has a weakness, that’s going to wreck havoc on the little body. My child was born with signs that something was wrong, but it wasn’t obviously autism. When we moved to another house he was almost two, and that’s when it became obvious that it was autism. It took us another six months to figure it out. He’s never received an immunization, unless the hospital gave him the hep B behind my back when he was born, but otherwise I can’t blame immunizations on him. But I thank God I knew ahead of time not to do it. There’s different degrees of autism, some have it worse than others. He is VERY high-functioning. There is a possibility that he would have been even worse with each shot he got had I allowed them.
I hope that answers your questions. The best place to go to is http://www.thinktwice.com. Look on the first page, there’s a link to a special report that is FULL of info that showed that the CDC knew about the link to mercury before the govnt. stopped allowing the thimerosal.
